EnVyUs, fnatic with wins at EEPL

The first two matches of ESL ESEA Pro League Season 2 Finals group A saw favourites move on in the upper bracket with two 2-0's, as EnVyUs defeated Liquid (de_cbble 16-14, de_cache 16-5) and fnatic disposed of Conquest (de_mirage 16-4, de_inferno 16-10).

Group A's initial matches were up first at ESL's Burbank studio, starting with EnVyUs and Liquid, who had to use Mohamad "⁠mOE⁠" Assad as a replacement for Jonathan "⁠EliGE⁠" Jablonowski due to school commitments.

Interestingly it was the stand-in alongside Jacob "⁠FugLy⁠" Medina who found quite a lot of succes on map one, de_cbble, as they picked up numerous multi-kills and won a few rounds for Liquid almost on their own.

mOE played a huge part in Liquid's run on de_cbble

Despite only getting five rounds as Counter-Terrorists, Liquid got all the way up to a 13-13 scoreline afterwards on their T side. EnVyUs picked up their 14th round, but lost the following one and suddenly Liquid looked to be the favourites to close out the map due to EnVy's bad buy.

Everything turned around when Liquid threw away a 4-on-3 afterplant situation versus three pistols, as they lost the map point and the entire map in the last possible regulation round at 14-16.

Map two was simply put a blood bath, but not in the direction mOE wanted to, as Liquid dropped down to the group A lower bracket at 5-16, only picking up two rounds as Counter-Terrorists on de_cache.

The other group A match-up saw Conquest in an uphill battle against fnatic, and it ended up being as straightforward as map two in the first best-of-three.

The Swedish powerhouse started off as Terrorists on de_mirage and picked up a solid 11-4 half. With their second side pistol round win, they stormed onto a 16-4 scoreline to make it 1-0 in the series.

de_inferno followed and that was an even bigger whitewash towards the beginning, as fnatic destroyed their opposition for 14-0 before dropping the ball in the last round of their Counter-Terrorists side due to a five-man auto-shotgun mid rush.

Interestingly enough fnatic couldn't close it out very quickly, as Conquest picked up the pistol round and a number of following gunrounds to make it 14-8 before fnatic picked up match point. It took them two more rounds to advance to the EnVyUs upper final at 16-10.
